SCIENTIFIC DIRECTORATE
After graduating from the University of Medicine and Surgery, he specialized in hematology and laboratory medicine. Since its founding, he has been the Medical Director of the Blood Donation Service of the Swiss Red Cross in Ticino. He is a member of the Red Cross Council of the Swiss Red Cross, the ISBT (International Society of Blood Transfusion) and the Swisscord Commission, which controls the activities of umbilical cord blood banks in Switzerland. He has been and is a specialist consultant for various national and international companies in the fields of hematology, blood transfusion and laboratory medicine. Since 2018, he has been Medical Director of SSCB.
After a Master’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, which was obtained by working on the regulation of gene transcription factors, he pursued a doctoral degree in Human Integrative Medicine at the Institute of Physiology at the University of Zurich. During this time, he presented his work in international contexts such as Kyoto, Washington and Copenhagen. Since 2013 he has been working at the Swiss Stem Cell Foundation (SSCF) both as a postdoctoral researcher, where he supervises research projects, and as a production manager for advanced therapy products in sterile environments. After specialization courses in Good Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Practice, he was awarded the title Technical Manager (Qualified Person) for the production of standardized products. In early 2020, he joined the SSCB team as an expert in Advanced Therapy Cellular Products (ATTMP) and then took on the role of Scientific Director and Technical Manager.
After graduating in life sciences, she completed her PhD in cell and molecular biology at the University of Insubria with the aim of obtaining cardiomyocytes from mesenchymal stroma cells derived from fat tissue. She was then sent by the Swiss Stem Cell Foundation to the USA to do her PhD at the Diabetes Research Institute – Cell Transplantation Center of the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, FL under the direction of Prof. Dr. Camillo Ricordi, MD. Here, she joined the team of excellence at the cGMP Human Cell Processing Facility, where she gained in-depth GMP expertise, experience in processing and characterizing human pancreatic islets for the treatment of diabetes, the culture and expansion of cellular vaccines, and the development of new cell therapies for clinical research. Since 2015, she has been Production Manager of the GMP Swiss Stem Cell Factory Technopark Zurich (CH) with expertise in quality control.
